Just want to draw a scaled 3d surface on that same surface

You should flatten poly-line component output(pl) and then connect to loft input(c)

Please can you tell  me why we have to flatten the poly-line components before lofting.

flatten, graft, simplify, reverse etc have to do with lists and trees (collection of lists) which represent the way data is organized in grasshopper.

check the tutorials section. it covers all the basic and not only topics.
