Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi there
I just have a small question! I have been trying out the ”Uneven Surface Diagrid” (11.4) tutorial from Grasshopper Primer and was just wondering if it would be possible to have even more control over how ”uneven” the surface should be? What I would like it to make it really dense some places and more open other places! Don’t know if you could do that with a sine curve or a colour graph, or maybe even with several points that would space out the lines? Would be really cool to have more control over the density like that! Do you think that is possible? Thanks

If you were after more control you can change the graph mapper type to other curve styles... composite sine curves is one of the alternative.

You could even set up a point grid field to non-uniformly distort patterning on a surface. The points can even be clamped to a grid boundary by setting up a base surface + closest point component that can then be applied to a surface.

Hi

Thank you so much for the quick reply! I have tried to change the graph to a sine curve, but it acts really strange! Its like it’s adding another layer to the grid, instead of making it tighter and loser… if you know what I mean?

I just tried the files you linked to (thank you very much), but I don’t quit know how to do this, since my grid consist of lines and not circles! I have 3 curves, which forms a surface similar to the ”Surface Diagrid” in Grasshopper Primer, except mine forms an ellipse that are closed. Otherwise the grid of lines on the surface is the same! What would be nice is if I could make the grid uneven similar to the files you showed me, but instead of circles on my surface it would be the lines/grid I already have! Sorry if this is easy to do, but I’m really new to this sweet application! Thanks
basically the definition creates a non rectalinear grid by clamping a field of points. I'll try to explain.

create curve for field attraction / repel

create surface

closest point to clamp points to domain

def view

points mapped to surface via evaluate srf component - clamped point grid is now exactly the same as any 1D point grid on srf

attach a hexgrid component (proprietary VB scripted component) - but add any point grid based component as you wish

move repel crv

attach rect panel component (proprietary VB scripted component)

Once again, thanks for your quick reply! I think that is exactly what I’m looking for, but unfortunately I don’t really understand what you are doing ;( I simply can’t get it to work! Don’t know how to do it ;(
m, upload you're definition & I'll hopefully plug it in.
Ok, here are the two files! So instead of having the graphs like I have to control the grid, I would like the example you showed me! Because I cant figure out how to have more control over the grid with the graph!

m, ok! Can you upload the whole image of the last definition view you posted, so I can se the whole structure? What is the second last one called, the one that have the VB logo on it? Thanks
m, sorry, I don't have acess to my server currently... but as I mentioned - the clamped 2d point grid can be mapped onto any surface and you can plug > ANY method onto the grid for your diagrid, rect grid, hex grid, etc. onto the point list output (you may need to flatten the input(right click)).
Ok, thanks! A bit to complicated for me I guess, but thanks for your help! I really appreciate it! Have a nice evening!
Damn, I really can’t figure this out! Anyone else who can help me out? Thanks
