Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Dear GH users,

over the next 3 weeks (till November 12th) I'll be in Seattle at McNeel headquarters discussing the road ahead for Grasshopper 2.0. I'll probably have very little time for support and discussions during this period.

The major topics discussed for GH2 during this period will be:

  • Documentation/Help
  • GHA/Cluster/VB/C# App-Store
  • Localization (i.e. languages other than English)
  • Constraint Engine implementation
  • Improved VB/C#/Python development tools
  • Multi-threading the solver
  • Building a Mac version

If you feel something important was left out, please let us know here. Note that incremental improvements and bug-fixes are not worth discussion as we'll try and get around to them no matter what. Topics on this list have to fit the "Are we going to try and do X?" format.

I'd like a slider shaped below. See the image. So that I can click to input the number in order!

Hi David,

I hope the developer meeting turned out avant guarde... :)
Have you contemplated on a future Alembic support: http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=36971.
Seems like Alembic is the new standard integrating 4D potentials that could sustain the idea of Grasshopper.

Kind Regards,

Ante

Now with the GH2.0 development MAC version?

Yes, since GH2 is a ground up rewrite we can make a cross platform version. At this point in time it seems that the most likely solution is to use the Eto platform for cross-platform UI.

I do not wish to make promises and guarantees, but I do promise that we're going to try our very best at making it work this time.

Thank you for your answer
Later can be understood GH2.0 mac and windows sync it?
GH1.0 for mac = windows for GH1.0?
What time will probably mac beta?

Thank you, google translate if you can understand

GH1.0 will never run on the Mac. GH2+ will be (hopefully) available on both Mac and Windows, and hopefully it will be the same plugin, so we don't have to maintain two different versions.

I think we're a year away at the least for the first GH2 beta, and they'll probably be released for Mac and Windows at the same time, if all goes well.

GH 2.0 = Python for grasshopper? (not ironpython)

GH 1.0 = high resolution screens optimization? (plzz)

What does "python for grasshopper (not ironpython)" mean?

It's pretty unlikely that a major UI update like high resolution support will be added to GH1. Basically, I'd like to do as little as possible on GH1, short of fixing reported bugs and maybe add the odd component or two.

Will GH 2.0 have an ironpython or Python component (plugin)?

Just a little high res support will help a lot! !!!!!
We'll move the python component into the core product for GH1 already. In Rhino6 you'll get Grasshopper pre-installed including the python script component.

What high-res support would you like to see most?

The menu is way out of scale and can't see "the black dropdown menu bar".

The component is not a problem, just a bit annoying.

Could you also make the list length component to a list length+number of threes component (one input two outputs)  :-D

Well the dropdown names are clearly a bug, I'll have to fix that. I think it's because the tab text is bigger.
