algorithmic modeling for Rhino
I'm trying to make a facade with metal spiders holding tensile structures. The code is based on a square grid. Every cell is a four point tensile menbrane. The kangaroo component works only when there is one cell and i don't undertstand why ? When i put more than one cell it tells me: Exceptional solution: index was out of range. It doesn't have to be negative and has to be smaller than the size of the collection.
In french:1. Solution exception:L'index était hors limites. Il ne doit pas être négatif et doit être inférieur à la taille de la collection.
Nom du paramètre : index
Please help me solve the probelm, will be very grateful if you come to Paris ;)
and sorry for my bad english !!

hello
you can use kangaroo's combine and clean component and input all the meshes you want to tensile.
cheers
alex
Thanks for your answer but i don't think i've understand what you mean bacause i've put the clean and combine and it still doesn't work ? Maybe i've missed something ?
hello again.
i rushed to answer. let me check the definition and get back.
oh i see now.
you have to (always) flatten the force objects input in kangaroo main component so that the meshes can be simulated.
Thank you very much guys for your answers !!
I owe you a restaurant when you'll come to Paris. Thanks again !!
And since the obvious had addressed I would strongly recommend using some "massacre" (he, he) in several components AND mastermind ways/methods for visually controlling the whole solution (when it's finished) ...
...in order to (a) greatly reduce the size of the whole thing (b) achieve some far more manageable definition as regards the logic flow.
For instance about 90% of tree "management" related components could been replaced by a single "mapper" type thing....blah blah.
If you like the compact aspect of things, I could give it a go using my Kill.Any.Useless.Component.No.Mercy (R) method . Or we could do it together.
best, Peter
Girls are hot here hehe !! i'm a newbie with grasshopper... i would love you explain me how you've made it more mies van der rohe style !!?? ;)
You've mentioned the 2 magic words (a) the Greatest Ever (b) the most important thing.
he he
Let the massacre (no Mercy) begin:
1. Is this an academic thing? Meaning that stuff like that are things for planet Utopia?
2. In what sort of animal these "shaders" are to be used? Meaning that designing a "Viz" control for 2345,67 mini-membranes is one thing and doing it for your house is a totally different challenge. In plain English: it's more than possible to hit the Wall if lot's and lot's of items are invited to the party (you bring the girls and I'll provide the Vodka).
3. Do you like the idea of completely separating (on a spatial basis) input/viz control (what is on display and on what level of "detail") from the core logic (i.e. components). Pros: obvious, Cons: obvious.
4. Is this def planned as a "constant" evolution thing? Meaning that using, say, the mapper isn't the best idea if your input goes from {a;b;c} to {a;b;c;d;g;...;z}.
5. Have you any - even academic - plans (see 1) to walk the walk up to the end?. Meaning talking to Birdair/Taiyo Kogyo etc etc ( http://www.birdair.br.com/ ). If yes be prepared because these fellas work a bit differently as regards potential collaboration and feedback at design phase.
BTW: the thing that would change the world as you know it:

best, Peter
BTW: done some travail préparatoire for that thing (blood from killed components is everywhere).
Q: If this is some shading approach (retrofit or new) I would strongly suggest to consider overlapping arrays of mini-membranes (some sort of sustainable simulation - cost VS benefits - is more than critical).
Have in mind that usually we don't apply serious forces (for membrane/fixing/support min cost) - thus module shapes are "less" relaxed than the ones that you expect.
That said tensile membranes ARE the Rolls Royce of contemporary engineering...all the rest (exclude geodesics) are just verbalism (the one way or the other).
wow wow the metal cables holding the menbrane are so sexy !!
This thing is for my architecture jury, the subject is collective housing and i made two buildings face to face (kind of) so to get intimity i have to make a filter. The thing is here, in my school every one hates grasshopper and all those kind of things. So i think i will get a very bad grade but for me it's just tripping, i wouldn't make that kind of filter if it was a real project(who knows..?) , i just want to experience things... man sorry for my bad english... i'm out, i haven't slept for 48 hours... making a furniture all day... and autocad all night... so see you tomorow and thanks for your advises. And a question: who made the metal attachments on the first image you shared ? And if you have more cool stuff like these share please !! Even if i don't have much time for gh i ll try to make a better definition... i still have a lot to do on autocad. My brain is collapsing... see ya !!
