Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hello to anyone who comes across this discussion.

I'm trying to recreate Maya Lin's Wave Field show below.

Does anyone have any idea how I can start to make this surface?

I tried to do the same method as in this discussion: http://www.grasshopper3d.com/forum/topics/how-to-do-this-create-wave

But I'm not sure how to apply my case to it or if it's even right for me to apply the solutions to my case.

I give a thank you in advance to anyone who can help me out.

Hi Freeda,

Maybe the mesh+ tools or this old post can help...

I'm studying the Grasshopper definition that you placed in the old post but I came up with two issues, I'm not sure if it's due to the file transfer but this is how it looks like.

But from what I understand, you first constructed the boundaries defining the space and then you specified the type of pattern you want to use as a texture.

Then, you made three different waves that are in the same xy plane before combining them together to get another texture.

Then you compiled everything into a VB Script command. Did I get it right?

Using the native tools I would say just using an bitmap (go crazy in photoshop, gimp or the likes) and then you can use the new heightfield component to create nice landscapes out of it.

Thanks! The seems a bit more easier than the previous definition and won't slow my laptop down as much. I'll give this a try and see how it goes.

Thank you so much for your help! :)

What plug-ins did you use? I'm missing one to run the definition and I think it's for command that run between the ReMap command and the MSmooth command.
