Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

hey guys,

mesh plus is bliss. really like that tool! don't have any problems using it. but a question: i could not find a gyroid among the primitives or was just not able to reproduce it (maybe i just don't conceive it visually...). as far as i read in other threads it's sort of an inbetween between the schoen P and the schoen D, which are both represented in the primitives list. i found various examples and scripts to generate a gyroid, but it would be great to have it in mesh(+) for its many great modification opportunities!

is there a way to create it in mesh(+)

best,

fab

Fab,

Thanks for the suggestion. the Gyroid is on the list of things to be added.

The question that comes up with the gyroid is the tiling. Most triply periodic surfaces included in mesh(+) have identical edge conditions and can be tiled in any pattern so long as the edges match. The Gyroid requires mirrored symmetry to tile, see: http://schoengeometry.com/e-tpms.html . This can be solved by making each face a 2x2x2 tiling, but I wanted to spend more time working with it before releasing it.

So in short, it will be coming in the next release.

thanks,

David
