Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Is there a way to set layers from within Grasshopper?  I haven't been able to figure it out on my own :-(

Thanks

Hi Scott,

you mean add layers in Rhino through Grasshopper? Set the layer into which objects are baked? Change existing Rhino layers?

David

I've created a design 100% inside of Grasshopper (attached).  So there are no pre-existing definitions set in Rhino.  So can I create layers in Grasshopper and then assign geometries to those layers.

I'm new to Grasshopper / Rhino.  So, I'm trying to figure out the best way to leverage each.

Thanks

Scott

When you 'bake' geometry from Grasshopper into Rhino, you can specify which layer they are baked to. This is however something that has to be done by hand every single time you bake something, and you cannot use the [Insert] key baking shortcut either, because it doesn't display those options.

There are however plugins for Grasshopper which allow you to automate baking. I think LunchBox is quite popular -in part- because of its baking tools.

Phew.  I'm glad its not possible cuz I couldn't figure it out.  I'd rather be right and not have the functionality :-)

I'll check out LunchBox

Thanks!

The human plug-in lets you control/add layers, as well as bake geometry to specific layers.

where do I get a smart human plug-in :-)
