Hi, Thomas.
I really missed the time of this conversation. I'm sorry for not replying to you and I also appreciate your response.
I solved my problem with the Nagy framework.
Following is the documentation:
https://github.com/danilnagy/discover_legacy
My work is briefly explained in the readme of this repository:
https://github.com/renatogcruz/generative_design
The thesis is available in this same repository, but it is written in Portuguese.
I remain interested in this subject. My idea is to write an optimizer, based on the Nagy framework, but for Freecad, a very interesting open source software. If you do not know, I'll leave the link for you here:
https://www.freecadweb.org/
Do you use github? I want to upload other projects that I still have an interest in developing.
thankful
Hey Renato,
First, if it's more convenient for you, you can reach me directly via e-mail (thomasdissaux@gmail.com).
I went to a masterlass given by T.Wortmann (Opossum) et J.Cichocka (Silvereye) 50 days ago or so where we tackled the different solutions available for optimization. Besides octopus of course it's all about single objective which poses the "problem" of designing a penalty or "fitness" function. I suggest you have a look at wortmann 's work on visualization ( Surveying design spaces with performance maps A multivariate visualization method for parametric design and architectural design optimization). With that advancement you kind of get rid of the problem of designing a precise function and you focus more on exploration. Also model based approach(opossum) seems to be the best approach so far, at least for what I'm interested in (convincing architects of the relevance of this approach for every scales) because of the time convenience.
What I got out of the discussions with Wortmann and Cichocka is indeed that multi-objective is the way to go for architects but that it also takes way more work to develop.
Are you working on the development of a new tool for multi-objective optimization for grasshopper (or other) I'm very interested, I'm wondering if I should take that route next year !) ? Testing new algorithms ? Still researching like me ?
I'm actually looking for small built project (family houses, shops) designed using GA's to compare when using other algorithms (direct, rbfopt, swarms, etc). I do not want to test shoeboxes :p
Looking forward to this,
Have a great day/night,
T Dissaux
Good afternoon, Thomas.
My name is Renato Cruz, I'm Brazilian architect.
I read your post on April 30 and I'm in the same situation as you. I also do masters and deal on generative design.
Actually I'm trying to advance the research through multi-objective optimization.
Maybe we can change some experience.
Kind regards.
R. Cruz
