Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hello,

I am a civil engineering student at the American University of Beirut, and I'm working on a final year project with my colleagues that interests us in asking about Millipede's limitations. So we want to know if millipede can do structural analysis and "steel reinforcement design"? Or if you can guide us to another software related to Grasshopper that can do this? Any papers or reports that can also be of any help to achieve our goal?

Thanks in advance.

I believe that Millipede does not have any explicit functionality for "steel reinforcement design" (by which I assume you mean steel reinforcement of concrete?) but it should be relatively straightforward to extract the stresses that Millipede can calculate and then work out the necessary reinforcement yourself based on that.  The same applies to Karamba.

As an alternative my own plugin, Salamander, can help you to export structural geometry created in Grasshopper into external analyis packages such as Autodesk Robot and Oasys GSA, which can calculate the required reinforcement for you (albeit only for slabs, in the case of GSA).

You may want to post this as a question on the forum, rather than as a blog post on your personal page.
