Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hey,

I know this is a website dedicated to Grasshopper, but since Grasshopper and Rhino are so closely tied, I thought of posting for help with Rhino here.

Alright, I have a site model of an area, and I am trying to render it very simple and basic, namely all the geometry being greyish-white and some light projected to create shade.

Well, one element (the building on site) is indeed being rendered as greyish-white with shading, while the topography comes out as black.

I don't understand why the topography comes out as total black. I even tried adding light to the scenery, but it wouldn't make any difference.

Please, se image for a clearer image of my problem.

Thank you

Marios

Andrea de Angeli,

The problem wasn't in the Normal surface, but in the Material Properties of the geometry. What I did was selecting the topography > Properties > [pull-down menu] Material > Assign by > Layer.

Before I had assigned the Material by Layer, it was set to Basic, and that's what caused the topography to come out black when rendered.

Stu,

No, I am using Rhino renderer.

As for the normal, I think I'll just flip it and see if that solves the problem :)

are you using vray?

you can make a material double sided in Vray.

or maybe just flip the normal on the surface which is black (as stated below)

Hi Marios

Today I don't have rhino at home, but you can try to check the normal of the surface (topography), if rhino work like 3DS you are still seeing the back side of the surface. I'don't remeber if in rhino there is an option (under the material editor) like force 2-side..

Let me know if this is useful for you.

Andrea
