LAST DAY TO SIGN UP FOR Grasshopper Workshop @3rdWARD Brooklyn, Ny

3RDWARDWORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:

Cover the Ward! We invite students and professionals to attend 2 weekend workshops exploring the exciting world of Digital Design + Fabrication. The workshop will introduce participants to Parametric Design strategies and conclude with the fabrication and installation of a new canopy over the 3rd Wardcourtyard. A reception will follow the completion of the project on April 25th, join the fun!

The focus of the workshop will be an in depth look at Rhino’s graphical algorithm editor Grasshopper, and its real world implications. Grasshopper gives designers the power to create and manage form generators without any prior knowledge of programming or scripting. Workshop participants will be introduced to strategies for the integration of digital tools not merely as a means of production but as an impetus of design.

The workshop is scheduled for the weekends of April 17th-18th and April 23rd-25th.

WEEKEND ONE: Grasshopper! APRIL 17th-18th

The first weekend of the workshop is an in depth look at Grasshopper covering: Introduction to interface, Objects/Operations/Organization, Data Management, Parametric Strategies, Design 4 Fabrication, Data Visualization, Cross platform communication, Design + Analysis and much much more!

OPTIONAL MIDWEEK Charrette: April 21st

On Wednesday April 21st an informal design charrette will be held to brainstorm canopy ideas and receive 3rd Ward feedback.

WEEKEND TWO: Canopy April 23rd – 25th

The second portion of the workshop will focus on the design, fabrication, and assembly of a new canopy over the 3rd Ward courtyard. Participants will play a pivotal role in the production of the canopy and witness first hand the creation and implementation of digital data in the real world.
