Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

A sequence of alternately subdividing and planarizing, to end up with an all planar-quad panelization with over 2000 faces (curvature analysis shown above).
Done with Weaverbird and Kangaroo.

I have not been able to achieve similar results with Kangaroo's planarizing features.  Perhaps I have a bad combination of stiffness/restlength/planarization strength... but my meshes always buckle and self destruct before achieving planarity.  Can you give some hints on methods?

Thanks,

Marc

Hi Dan,

Is there any gh example showing how to do this ??

At least?...man...Amazing work here with the new release of Kangaroo :)

Cool! Could the input surface be double curved as well?

In your example it looks like the original volume is already made up of (almost) planar quads, but considerably fewer... :-)

It would be interesting to pair this up with the inflation tools!

Here's a close up of the final mesh in the sequence above.

It still needs an additional smoothing force to counteract the ridges you can see appearing, but its a start and at least its planar.
