Hi Asaf, Metaballs cannot be represented by a single Nurbs surface. Or rather, it is not a guarantee that they can. Metaballs can have any topology genus, whereas individual nurbs surfaces (ignoring trimming curves at the moment) can only have genus=0 and genus=1 topology.
It is possible to represent a Metaball using a collection of nurbs patches, but Rhino has no algorithms for creating these patches. There are however reverse engineering plugins that do this, but I don't know enough about them to recommend one.

i have managed to pull it through with the metaball component. i get amazing 3d shapes but what im trying to get is a nurb surface. how can i convert it, or work from the beginning to create a nurb? the reason is that that i want to keep editing it in rhino after getting the final metaball form

Hi Mike,
you have to generate a lot of points and they have to be fairly equally distributed. I obtain the best results when creating 2D metaball slices in 3 different directions, then harvest the points from all of those section curves.
