algorithmic modeling for Rhino
As part of my thesis project researching Fabrication and Tectonics, I experimented with fabric formed concrete. Not only modelling it, but creating a viable fabrication process, then developing a vascular building skeleton to demonstrate its potential.

Thanks Wade, I have to admit Escher was an influence on the style.
Sebastian thanks also. Controlling the skeletons growth was tackled both from defining roughly where it was allowed to grow, and simultaneously where it wasn’t. So first defining areas to create anchor points, along walls, under floors, hand rails etc. From this a first pass wireframe skeleton is generated. The wireframe skeleton is crazy with no spatial qualities.
Second step was to create ‘spaces’ so for example extrude the walkways +z-axis for a bounding box, test the wireframe skeleton for inclusion in the bounding box, if a branch is inside it, it is culled. Once this is done, the wireframe is recalculated as a base for the real ‘bulging’ skeleton.
Obviously this is overly simplified but as a rough guide it hits the key points…
Nice, this looks really cool and interesting! congrats! I have a question about the construction, how did you achieve that the skeleton grows only in the parts where the structural components are needed? I mean how did you insert this free spaces, levels and staircases? Well of course you used some parameters therefore but if possible I would appreciate seeing a more simple example about how it works something to ge behind the logic of this system. Anyways, thanks for this masterpiece!
