algorithmic modeling for Rhino
Connecting the Dots was an interior installation project by Francisco Gomez Paz made for showcasing his work at the Milan Furniture Fair in 2012.
My part was making the parametric definition which was used to explore the design and facilitate the fabricatation of the entire structure.
162 unique-shape nodes, 3d printed
469 unique-length aluminium tubes, CNC laser cut
Tools used:
- Grashopper: the definition is entirely parametric from start (defining the overall shape of the structure) to finish (exporting DXF and STEP files for fabrication)
- Kangaroo: shaping the lattice
- T-Splines (with GH plugin): smooth geometry of the connection nodes

Thanks Matt!
The numbers were cut out using boolean subtraction. Some tweaking of the font curves was necessary, at first Rhino refused to perform those booleans of course...
Great work Jacek! What was your workflow for 'embossing' the labeling numbers?
