algorithmic modeling for Rhino

DSL Components 101013

Overall Form was generated based on my 2005-2006 AA Diploma project – ‘ Transitional Morphologies’ (http://www.achimmenges.net/?p=4387) and inspired by 2005-2006 AA Diploma Honour project -Pavlos Sideris ‘ Membrane arrays’ (http://www.achimmenges.net/?p=4385) using Generative Component with minimal relaxation scripting from Dr Chirs Williams Lab, Bath University (http://people.bath.ac.uk/abscjkw/).
However in this project, in this time Rhino3d Grasshopper with Kangaroo plug-in are adapted for nowadays powerful and popular communications.

Form was fabricated using cable tie binding, simple and primitive technique, with 6000 non-identical components – over 300 hours of laser cutting time. Not like surface riveting shell structure, to solve the problem of self-weight problem of component based design, gradual change and differentiated material thickness and transition change from surface active system into line active system are adopted. Folded tab became truss structure and their width also getting narrower and slender according to stress pattern of overall form.

2nd installation from trilogy will be located outside and induce differentiated space and atmosphere using simple amount of degree change from material system.
Last one will explore functional change from material system depend on environmental conditions without additional energy input. This system is inspired by Asif Khan from 20062-2007 AA Diploma. Hopefully I will deliver them as soon as possible – Fingers Cross!

Many Thanks!
