Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hello, I think your concept is interesting and would like to learn more.  I'm working on generative jewelry that I will be selling on Shapeways.

Tell me more about your concept.  Do designers get paid? How?  How much?

What materials are available?  What about available build sizes.  I intend to offer rings and bracelets, will your site offer size options?  On earrings, will ear wires be included?  On pendants, will straps or chains be offered?

Hello Rob, we are happy to see you joined the ThingsMaker group.
Most of your questions are related to production & marketing for which we are still reviewing options. As you saw, the site is still in "Designers preview" state for exactly this reason. So I can not answer fully all of your questions but Ill try. Still, I urge you to send us some of your designs (to preview@thingsmaker.com) so we can scale up our inventory of models and designers and make sure everything ticks correctly with your models on the TMT platform.

"Do designers get paid? How?  How much?"
Yes, they are. Whenever an item is sold the designer will get paid. How much? We aim that ThingsMaker commission will be around 20% of the profit (the item price - printing handling & shipment cost). Every other dollar is the designer's.
"What materials are available?"
As we use 3d-printing for production, we use materials that are suitable for that cause.  We currently offer gold, silver and plastic of various colors. However, if you require additional materials (which can be used for  3d-printing) will be happy to add them as well.
"What about available build sizes.  I intend to offer rings and bracelets, will your site offer size options?"
Yes, it will. We are still not sure when and how to show it (in the customization process) but build size will clearly be an option.
"On earrings, will ear wires be included?  On pendants, will straps or chains be offered?"
As part of our effort to offer designers a complete platform we are examining all options vs printing services (such as Shapeways) and delivery services to allow for such additions.
