Squid enables to create drawings using Grasshopper. By utilizing Data Trees it can also render animations (as .png sequences) thanks to procedural approach.

Squid Save default location 5 Replies

Hi Mateusz, thank you for this tasty squid! I really like it. One thing I noticed is the Squid Save component default location... you (Mateusz) are not a user of my pc, so the default is only useful…Continue

Hi

Is it possible to create fill with light and shadow effects for curved surfaces like spheres or more complex shapes?

@Nicholas : that's possible but not in a way you're thinking right now ;) Take a look at http://www.grasshopper3d.com/group/squid/page/animate-the-squid

Hello Mateusz, thanks for this amazing plug-in. Just a quick question, is there a way to generate two images at the same time via assigining different branches? It seems that the output can only be one? Thanks!

Hello guys (and girls) !

First thanks for this awesome plugin !

Is there a way to render breps composed with curves? Because i'm trying to render some things like that but it's not working... I can't find a way to make the"map to screen" component work with my structure ? and I don't think this comp is the good way to proceed.

Really great plugin which I've been longing for.

I wonder if there's a way to save the image to PNG-8 or 32 color PNG for web browsing. Or is it possible to even save it as a jpg?

As a followup to the request for a map tutorial. This script will take a mesh and draw it correctly using a gradient as the fill and outline. If you were really intent on using squid for this kind of thing you might grade their color using a different angle. This works for creating a fog I guess but I was just curious to stress test it.

Love the work and I second what Christian said about the sixth sense.

This is so much better than what I've done in the past. Maybe there was a better way, but for viz I would make planar srf out of everything then -viewcapturetofile. Always felt so out of my control (and slow).

I'm glad you did the extra effort of the map component. Cheers!

Here's a couple of mine.

@Mateusz - I create a png sequence and then merge it with third party software. I will post some examples soon. Basically you have to create a bunch of save instructions and weave them with the drawing instructions. Notice that you have to give a different file name for each save instruction, you can input a list of names to the save component.

Great plugin! Processing for grasshopper finally :) One question here + how do you create a gif? From the squid plugin or do you compose a sequence later? Anyway I do now know how to create a sequence too...
