Information

Roadrunner

ROADRUNNER (Traffic Simulation Tools For Grasshopper, WIP) is a set of tools and user objects for sketching particle systems on trajectories to simulate vehicle animation and urban traffic behavior.

-Vehicle elements (3D objects and a component for custom vehicles; models from Google Warehouse)

-Traffic Velocity Graphs, drawn on every trajectory curve (allow custom graphs drawn)

-Traffic regulation elements (such as Traffic Lights and Stop Signals) and traffic density

-Particle Systems on trajectory curves, just to manage the traffic regulations and avoid collisions based on security distances

-Traffic Vehicle Animation Modes (Dots, Bounding Boxes or complex Meshes with attributes for final rendering (Giulio Piacentino´s Render Animation)

-Vehicle Lights and Vehicle Sights, to make visual studies

Team:

-Sergio del Castillo Tello (Doctor No, lead programmer)

-Everyone that wants to be involved, support.. these tools

The development of Roadrunner is planned to take part within a Research Group Program at ETSAM (University of Architecture in Madrid); This forum group is created just to test the interest of the community, while we keep on developing (it is still being tested), probably we will share the whole thing in the future. Cheers!

Hi! Just wanted to ask if there are any more updates on this project?

Was quite eager to give it a trial

Greetings! The tool looks great. I was looking forward agent-based modeling plugin for traffic simulation. Are there any news about the release?

I am looking for a grasshopper based solution to assess traffic densities for urban areas in respect to other features that I have modeled relating to urban heat islands. If Roadrunner is available as a beta, I would love to test it out and possibly demonstrate it for a conference paper.

Is Roadrunner available for download?

Thanks,

This is such a great tool!

Recently I am looking for a tool to do traffic simulation in urban context but I understand nothing about this kind of simulation. I tried to research for simulation tools but most of the engineering tools look 2D and not intuitive. I can't wait to try this, it just looks great!

When are you thinking to release this? Or is there a trial version for us to give it a try? Or is there an alternative that works similar way from your side?

Thank you

Hi, this looks great!

Road Runner, a great name!!

I want to make an animation for my thesis, and was wondering if it would be possible wit road runner to have a bunch of moving boxes and control them to avoid crashes? I really have no idea how to do such a thing!

saludos y gracias

When will this be released? Really excited about it. DO you think you can send me the trail set up for this tool?

With great tools comes great responsibility!  This is something we deal with with each project, and it would be great to have some decent tools to work on it.  More so than the tools, it is important that the community understand how to evaluate the simulated models in order to put the tools to good use.  Designing efficient dropoffs, mitigating traffic backup, and general assessment of new project impacts on traffic are a key and often under appreciated element of a project.  If designers have access to these tools during concept design, all the better.  Looking forward to seeing this develop!
