Baking geometry results after optimization with Octopus

Hi everyone,

Following this discussion :

http://www.grasshopper3d.com/group/ladybug/forum/topics/baking-geom...

I am also opening a discussion here.Maybe someone has a smart idea.

I am exploring form finding for "environmental performance" (excluding structurla at this phase)  using as a reference a paper "BUILDING SIMULATION AND EVOLUTIONARY OPTIMIZATION IN THE CONCEPTUAL DESIGN OF A HIGH-PERFORMANCE OFFICE BUILDING".

I want to be able to have 3D results of generations as in your : video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fYw7KexxThM

Is it possible to do it without Matlab(unfortunately, I don't use it, and have no time to learn it)? and how would the workflow be?

Thanks for any insight,

Nita

I would use a simple Data Recorder component.

And plug it into results during optimization process  and at finish you will have Gens recorded.

Maybe a tricky part is distribution according to generation number.

So maybe to record a generation number and generations.

Distribution can be on simple grid with 1,2,3,4,5 points.

Hi Igor,

Thanks for your input.I never used data recorded, tried to follow your steps(and what i found online) can you check my file to see if it makes sense?

Also can you check the second part(room 2
)of the definition the objective about energy demand?

I have hard times trying to figure out the equation.

I checked your solar tool Voxels.Great work! Will try to learn from it, but too advanced for me now(im also missing some components couldn't figure out all of it|)

In this case it is only wwr, but im also considering to  optimize the shape together with wwr(as in Mostapha's paper mentioned above) of the external wall, according to objectives(energy demand, day-lighting, pmv indoor comfort, total radiation on the facade and total sunlight hours).I still have difficulties setting the boundary condition.

thanks for any insight.

Cheers,

N

Hi Nite and Igor.

I also did it in a similar manner that Igor mentioned. It's basically a post processing after it is all done. You can read the results back from the text file (where you have all the population for each generation) and then iterate through them. There are couple of components that you can find in the forum that will let you bake the geometries with colors. You don't need MATLAB to do that.

Hi Mostapha.

I read your article entitled "BUILDING SIMULATION AND EVOLUTIONARY OPTIMIZATION IN THE CONCEPTUAL DESIGN OF A HIGH-PERFORMANCE OFFICE BUILDING". i’m Interested to know whether the project can be carried out by the honeybee + Octopus (Instead of using energy plus, radiance and matlab)?

Thanks a lot

Yes!
