"solve adjacencies" component can't identify overlapping surface?

Is it true that the "solve adjacencies" component can't identify overlapping surface like the "surface matching" function in OpenStudio?

Does this mean that I need to do some manual work to split the overlapping surface before using this component? How to do it in Rhino if I must?
