algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi everyone,

First, I want to ask if anyone did a study or concept design for a BUS STOP in LBHB and you are welcome to share your study. THANKS.

IF not, can anyone help me to answer these problems:

1. How do I do Thermal Analysis for the Roof? Should I calculate only Roof or the whole BUS STOP ? Should I apply material ?

2. I have done the Shading Benefit Analysis.

3. By using the Outdoor Solar Temp and Outdoor Comfort Cal, I know the comfortableOrNot and percentOfTimeComfortable (WITHOUT roof or any cover). And how do I calculate WITH a roof to see if more people comfortable or not.

.......

Here is my GH file.

Im really appreciate for your help.

Hi Abraham, I have checked this tutorial, and yes this is just a small part in my big problem. I understand the comparison of comfort SHADE & SUN, and this is the result. What I concern was how is my new roof design (with specific shape) could effect to people? or this result is fixed to any kind of covering (in shade)?. Also, I want to calculate the Thermal analysis of the roof surface in a year? Thank you.

Bao,

Plug your roof geometry into the 'contextShading' input of the solar adjusted temperature component so see the improvement in comfort of an occupant standing beneath the shade.  Make sure that you also put the 'bodyLocation' input in the place where bus stop residents are seated.

You could run a Honeybee EnergyPlus simulation of the bus stop to estimate surface temperatures of the roof with different materials.

Hi Chris,

I've tried different geometry but the results was almost the same:

percentTimeOfComfortable (without contextShading) = 46.130

percentTimeOfComfortable (with contextShading) = 38.595 ?? (is it supposed to be larger than 46.130 ?)

And it is getting lower to 36 when I set up the groundRefectivity to 0.9, which is make sense because of the Concrete ground.

Thank you

Bao,

You should compare a comfort study with solar adjusted temperature and no context shading to a study with solar adjusted temperature WITH context shading.  Right now you are comparing the context shading case to one with no solar adjusted MRT (which means that this case is always completely shaded).  With a Chicago weather file, I am getting that the solar adjusted case with shade is more comfortable than having full shade but your climate is really hot and so it would make sense that a fully shaded case is the more comfortable.

Remember that the shade benefit component is only showing you the places where shade is more desirable. It does not show you an 'optimal case' unless you put a full sphere around the person and take all cells with shade desirability.

Dear Chris,

I got it. For this case, I have tried several shapes, and you were right about the weather, there was not much different of percentTimeComfortable when I tried several different shapes, in this weather. Do you have any suggestion for me to follow to get a form study of the roof? or a strategy to study in this case?

Thank you

Hi Chris,

Can you suggest any idea? Thanks
