Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hello everyone,

I am modelling a greenhouse structure added on an existing building, and would like to apply the equivalent load of snow on it.

The mesh load seems the most appropriate to apply this load, but I have only constructed the main beams, not the glass panels supported by the beams. The beams are created based on the ground foundations plans, which gives me available positions to put them on.

I want to create a surface covering the whole of the roof, link it to the beams, mesh it, and apply a mesh load on it, simulating the snow. My problem is that I can't find a way to link this surface to the beams.

Do you think this is a good approach to the problem? Have you got other ideas?

Dear Gwenaël,

the mesh for applying the MeshLoad need not be part of the model. The loads on the loaded mesh will be transferred to the closest nodes of the structural model (see manual). By limiting the elements where the loads shall be applied to, you can make sure that only the upper girders of your truss beams get loaded.

You can use the same method to take account of the dead weight of the glass panels.

Best,

Thank you very much, it worked!
