I have a question. shells elements in Karamba as stated in one of the discussion are plates elements with axial forces in the plane and shear forces in the plane. I have a 3d models using shell elements. We used a simple model for verification. Resultant forces are correct, but nodal displacements are 1/8 smaller than nodal displacement obtain by a QA/QC FEM software using elements with flexural forces included in the analysis. Geometry steel material and support constraints are identical on the two models. Does it means Karamba can only analysis area elements with only axial loads?

Hi Cairo,

the shell elements in Karamba are based on the TRIC-element of Argyris (see e.g. https://www.google.at/search?q=TRIC+argyris&oq=TRIC+argyris&...). The only difference is that in Karamba the shear deformation is neglected. This however influences the results only in case of shells which are very thick relative to their span.

Did you refine the mesh of the shell elements in Karamba until the displacements converged?

Could you post the gh-definition of your example?
