algorithmic modeling for Rhino
Hi all,
I would like to perform buckling analysis on gridshells, like this one or this one. Linear buckling analysis is often not enough, as these structures deform quite significantly before buckling (and therefore writing equilibrium on the initial configuration is not really meaningful).
A solution is therefore to perform more sophisticated analysis, like the arclength (or Riks) method. For example here is a paper using Riks method to evaluate buckling capacity of gridshells.
To the best of my knowledge, the arclength method is not implemented in Karamba. I considered using the 'LaDeform' component of Karamba, but I'm not quite sure that it is equivalent to modified Riks method, as it looks like one can only control load magnitude? Do you have references on the algorithm used in 'LaDeform' and would you have a recommendation to make for this kind of analysis?
Tanks a lot,
Romain M.
P.S: More on the Modified Riks Method
