Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi Karamba team,

When working with vector fields of shell stress, force or even principle strains I was wondering if there is a direction convention for the vectors that reveals the sign of the result (i.e tensile or compressive).

Presumably there is an underlying local coordinate system for each shell element but as far as I can tell this is not something that can currently be extracted?

I know you can currently grab the sign from the "Shell Forces" component but this is not always such a simple process to get the relevant value from the data tree generated by the component.

Hi James,

currently (version 1.2.2) there is no convention for detecting the sign of stress from the vector field. But this would be a useful feature.

In Karamba 1.2.2 the local coordinate system of shell elements can be visualized in the ShellView-component. However there is currently no way to get it out numerically. In the next release of Karamba it will be possible to define user defined coordinate systems for shells.

Best,

Clemens
