Material and cross section output problem of 'Assemble Model'

Hi all,

If I input one material and one cross section in the 'Assemble Model' I get two materials and three cross sections in output.

I notice that there are something like a default in the assemble, because I see in the panel that there are one material and two cross section even if I don't input them. But if I see with a panel in a 'Disassemble Model' the cross section output is empty and the material outputs resturns 'Steel'. While if all is connected I get from the Disassemble my cross section (even if the Assemble counts three) and two material, my material and the default steel.

What's going on? How can I solve that problem?

Cheers

Giovanni,

If you look at the element you have create from line to beam it has a default cross section of RO114.3/4 and the cross section you have added to the model directly of IPE300.

If you want to change this you are better off defining the element cross section before assembly.

Hi Tim,

Thank you so much for the answer.

I saw you're right by putting a 'Model View'. But why I can't see it with a 'Disassamble Model' and I get three cross sections from the panel after the Assamble? I should see two.

For the material works properly, adds my material to the default one and I can see it well in the panel.

Can you also explicit me how to define the element cross section before assembly? I only know this method of assign cross section to a beam.

Best

Giovanni

I am using the WIP version of Karramba which allows you to define the values with the generation of the beams. I think you had to use the modify element to define the cross section before analysis previously.

With the 'Modify element' I can only define height and thickness, but this just adds another cross section to the model. Modifying the beam I get four cross section!

Thanks anyway...I will try the WIP version too!

Hi Giovanni,

in Karamba3d 1.2.2 the default cross sections and materials should not be part of the list which is output by the 'Disassemble Model'-component. The reason is that otherwise repeatedly disassembling and reassembling the model would lead to multiple duplicates of the default cross sections and materials.

In Karamba3d 1.3.0 the assignment of cross sections and materials works differently as compared to version 1.2.2: The material can be defined at the cross section and the cross section at the component which creates the element. This allows to e.g. define cross section families for optimization which cover different materials.

The option for defining materials and cross sections at the 'Assemble'-component is for backward compatibility and in case that cross section and material assignment via element identifier is more comfortable than at the element creation component. Cross section and material input at the 'Assemble'-component only overwrites an elements material or cross section in case that it has the default material and cross section.

The 'Disassemble'-component in Karamba3d 1.3.0 outputs materials and cross sections only in case they were defined at the 'Assemble'-component. Otherwise they can be determined by disassembling the elements and their cross sections.

Best,

Clemens
