algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi,

I'm modelling steel warehouses for my thesis but I'm running into problems.

When specifying that the beams elements should act as trusses, it shows very large deflections at certain locations. The weird thing is that it only does this at certain combination of parameters. I tried:

  • Removing the joint agents
  • No wind bracing and wind loads
  • Different configuration of truss

But I cannot figure out why the truss is 'buckling' only at certain locations and certain parameter configurations.

Does somebody have a solution?

Dear Niels,

your structure is partly kinematic (see attached definition). Some beams are free to rotate about their longitudinal axis.

Best,

Clemens

Thank for your reply Clements!

I solved it by applying only truss elements on the lower and upper beams of the truss. For my purpose this should be oke.

Oh, that's pretty interesting. By the way, what do you think of robotic process automation in warehouses? I believe that it can be highly beneficial for many business owners, and after reading articles like https://deusrobotics.com/automated-warehouse-picking/, I understood that such a solution saves a lot of time and reduces costs.
