algorithmic modeling for Rhino
Hi geniuses, I'm stuck on a problem for quite a while now. I want to make a realistic net under gravity.
I've searched quite a few defs online but I don't seem to find any related to my need....
I've come across the minimal surface / relaxation def which is quite interesting and is similar to what I want. Only that it is applied to fabric rather than cable nets... and it doesn't seem to take gravity under account. Also I'm not sure if I extract the isocurves of the minimal surfaces I would get a corresponding net behaviour with similar bounding edges??
I just kinda need someone to guide me a way in my research, like really what direction should I look into? Minimal surface? Or how can springs simulate nets under gravity? To be exact of what I want I'm attaching some pics.
before the simulation: (red are the bounding edges)
the result I want after the simulation: (with downward gravity)

Oh yes in case people are wondering whether my nets are elastic or not, I don't need them to be elastic. So It must be a totally different problem than stretched surfaces, but still they are soft and how to simulate them?
Hi Kim,
thank you so much for the quick reply! Yes that's is exactly what I asked for lol. I still need to get more familiar with kangaroo 2 though... I have one question though, why did you use the bouncy solver instead of normal solver? Have a nice day!
