Can you post a small example model with what you are modelling?  When you import or generate a structural model beam or finite element, there should be "structural nodes" that act as control points, the difference being that multiple curves (with a junction of 2 or multiple members) all respond to the movement of that node.  Control points are isolated to only the specific curve or object and the "connection" would not move with it.

 

Nodes can also associate attributes with them such as restraint, loads etc.

 

But I'm happy to consider alternate work flows that are useful.
