Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi there,

I was wondering if it were possible to model a structural fuse (or plastic hinge) between two beams? So that as the beams take load you can test how long it takes the fuse to break.

Is this something Geometry Gym can help with?

Thanks a lot

Hi Matthew,

Geometry Gym plugins can't directly solve this type of behaviour (yet, maybe some day in the future), but it can help in preparing the model if you are preparing the inputs in Rhino/Grasshopper.

Plastic behaviour is typically simulated with non-linear analysis (including possibly time step loading).  Several of the structural analysis packages I link to include these features, do you have have access to any of these?

I can gladly enable components that help prepare this type of model definition, already in existence for some of the software is fabric form finding which calls on similar solution techniques.

Cheers,

Jon
