Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Is it better to set the units to mm while working with your plugin?

Can I design in one single gh page e.g. the floors, walls, structure of a tower , link them with your plugin and then bake them all at once, or do i have to do an independent work for e.g. the floors then walls and then structure?

Thank you!

Hi,

Thanks for the questions, the units one is a good one.  Some of the other revit links from Grasshopper require you to work in feet, but mine respect the document settings.  Note that the IFC file is presently generated with metre units, but then the software importing should also convert to other desired units.

So if you nominate a length (or a profile path curve etc), the gh def should be consistent with the active rhino document units.  Note many of my examples assume mm rhino documents, but you are free to work in metres, yards, feet etc etc.

Most of my examples generate only a specific type of project parts (ie floors or walls or slabs etc) but it will work equally well for grasshopper files comprising any or all of these.  The BIM plugins set a database specific to each grasshopper document, but the evolution of the structural analysis plugins (from rhino) means one central database is shared by rhino document and all gh documents.

If you observe any behavior contradicting the above explanation, or need further clarification, I'm more than happy to help.

Cheers,

Jon
