Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

I have a space-truss like structure in grasshopper, which I've already sent to Revit and Robot FEA, which I want to export to IFC. The IFC export from Revit ends up enormous for some reason, so I'm trying to get it out of Grasshopper directly with ggIFC components. Unfortunately, I have no idea what I'm doing. Is there a tutorial somewhere I can reference? There are so many components and I can't figure out which ones I need!

Currently, the data comprise coordinated lists of: straight lines which all node out as per an FE model, a list of member sections (UK hollow shapes) as text, a list of member orientation vectors, and a list of miscellaneous text comments. It seems like this should be simple!

Hi Josef,

Thanks for posting, indeed the IFC components are quite intimidating and not very intuitive, which is why a few years ago I added the ggRVT components (that still generate IFC).

But if you are already using the gg plugin to exchange from Grasshopper to Robot, then you can right click on the ggBake component and use the context menu to "Bake to IFC"  If you can't see this option, try updating to a more recent build of the plugin or let me know.

Is your workflow to export from Grasshopper to Robot, and then from there to Revit?  If you are already exporting from grasshopper to Revit using my plugin (and you might be using another) then you are already generating IFC.

Which software is going to receive the IFC file?  I'd suggest using IFC2x3 still at this point in time.  If there are problem, let me know.

Cheers,

Jon

Thanks! I am using internally developed tools to go into Robot, and MantisShrimp to go to Revit.

I was reminded that I can probably generate IFC from Robot, solving my current problem, but if that doesn't work I will try using the ggRevit tools and come back if I have problems, Thanks!
