Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi there,

im trying to get to grips with the force density relax tool to create a mesh based on a physical model ive made

Model.JPG

the original mesh is composed of several open ended mesh boxes joined together.

For the point restraints ive baked the naked vertices from grasshopper and reinput them as a collection of points. The idea was that id be able to adapt the mesh to look like my model in rhino like with kangaroo but this isnt working (not sure if this is possible in geometry gym)

The reason i havnt used kangaroo to do this is because the mesh relaxes much more than with geometry gym

I saw this on the geometry gym blog and would ideally like to acheive shapes like this but also be able to move the edges around.

Thanks for any advice,

thanks Danny,

the problem im having using kangaroo is that when the mesh relaxed the original shape is almost completley lost as with the screenshot i attached

FDR in geometry gym works much better than kangaroo for the shape im trying to acheive as the relaxation of the mesh is more controllable.

Id like to be able to use geometry gym but be able to move the naked vertices and change the mesh like you can do with kangaroo and baked anchor points.

Hi Antony,

In the past week I started to enable some functionality to "displace" mesh vertex for the force density routine.  You can define a line from initial mesh vertex to required place (apply a restraint at the initial point).  Download from http://www.geometrygym.com/downloads

If you can post/email your file, I'll take a look, and I'll try to post an example of my own soon.

Cheers,

Jon

Hey Jon,

Thanks for the advice, ill check out the download you sent now.

The different layers of the rhino file ive attached have the different results of the kangaroo and the FDR grasshopper bakes on them.

Hi Antony,

Please see attached, I am adding a "ridge" on the mesh edges. Does this help?
