Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi,

I use the "Tone Generator" component in my experimental interactive installation. Problem- with every change of frequency (cca. 10/sec. from data stream to F input) you can hear a little "crunch" or "pop". How can I enhance it? How can I eliminate this crunch?  Have an idea?

Thanks a lot

Hi Ondrej,

The 'clicking' or 'popping' sound you are hearing is because the phase of each frequency doesn't quite align during each cycle.  If you have the exact frequency where the phase happens to align... then this wont happen, but it's very difficult to do for all frequencies.  Unfortunately, I don't think there is much that I can do about this.  Sorry.

Went searching for an answer to this same problem and am sorry to read this. It's not possible to offset the attack of the tone generator like synths in DAWs, eliminating the pop? So is Firefly's tone generator meant to be used as a single frequency, given that any change in frequency almost inevitably produces a pop?

If there have been any workarounds to this since 2013, I'd love to know. Thank you.
