algorithmic modeling for Rhino
On march 18th, microsoft updated the SDK and the kinect drivers.
Since then I have had endless (additional) difficulty getting either the old 1.6 version, or the new 1.7 version to link up to my camera. Is anyone else having this trouble as well?
I'll be grateful for any help,
Liam

I have solved my problems with the help of Andy Payne:
-after installation of new Kinect driver 1.6 or the newest 1.7 , find the file "Microsoft.Kinect.dll" and copy
-Click on File>Special Folders> Components Folder
-paste the new Microsoft.Kinect.dll file in this folder over the old one
I have no problems now.
Hi Liam,
Do you know which kinect sensor you have (is it the Xbox sensor, or the Microsoft sensor)? They're almost identical except the Microsoft sensor has greater sensitivity in the near range and also costs about $100 more. Now, I'm not completely sure of this... but in my tests with my Xbox sensor... I had major difficulty using the 1.6 SDK build with my sensor. My hunch is that they decided to only support the Microsoft sensor with the 1.6 SDK or newer releases. Some of this is because it can offer new features like facial recognition which would be difficult (if not impossible) with the Xbox sensor. So, if you have the Xbox sensor, I would recommend reverting back to the 1.5 SDK build (I've been able to get this to work with my sensor). I know others have been able to get it to work using the newer build... and I believe they are using the Microsoft sensor. So, I guess it depends on which sensor you have. I haven't actually confirmed these suspicions on the Kinect site... it's just a hunch that they stopped supporting the Xbox sensor... But, I spent several hours trying to get mine to work with the latest build and could not... and I think this is the reason why.
HTH,
Andy
Thanks Refik for the clarification. I guess I need to spend more time with my sensor :)
