Elk resolution and scale

I am trying to get a pretty large map into rhino/grasshopper. Is there any way for Elk to reduce the resolution of streets by interpolating through fewer points. Right now, it is taking forever for the "minor roads" to generate. It seems like there should be a way reduce detail when at a zoomed-out scale.

I don't think there's any way to solve it as it sits now unless you wanted to write something to parse through the XML and cull points from it.  Otherwise it just iterates through everything in the file and the more data it has to translate the longer it's going to take.
