Solar radiation

Hi all,

I have used D4R in the Rhino environment, but now I am trying to run simulations through the Grasshopper interface. What I would like to do is the following:

In the attached file are a couple of buildings. I would like to see how much annual solar radiation they receive. I looked at the tutorial and on the website, but I haven't really managed to get the solar radiation simulation working.

Is there someone who is willing to upload a Grasshopper code how to run an annual solar analysis on all the surfaces in this model?

Hi Jouri,

The DIVA grasshopper component can run the analysis as an image or as nodes. The quickest way for multiple surfaces is the image, the setup looks like this:

and produces a resulting image like this:

this was for a Boston weather file.

Alternatively you can mesh everything at a resolution that you want- then take the vertices or centers of the meshes and their respective normals to use as analysis nodes and analysis directions. Then you have the values for each node- and reconstruct a falsecolor map however you want.

Their is an example here, and another involving self shading here.

An automated false color grid is being built for a future release of the DIVA grasshopper components.
