Wish for GH 2.

Can we please lock the components' names permanently ? This would prevent all sorts of questions on this forum about identifying components....

... or please embed some kind of identification information (like a small QR code) which will be recognized with some online/offline ... recognizer(?). (It's not really a good idea until the 'qr' code would be invisible for human eye... and robust enough to resist the jpg compression).

I personally would prefer the first option... is there actually any point at renaming components when we have groups ?

This is very confusing for a beginner like me. The tutorials I look at all have components that have old names. So when I can't find them it is very frustrating!

That's not quite what Mateusz was getting at.

Now that we are nearing the end of the Development of GH 1.0 I doubt the names themselves will change much any more.

Mateusz was requesting that GH restricts you from giving any component a custom name..

Personally I never name actual components for the same reason. I prefer to use params for User Variables Names. like seen in this image from the Organizing Grasshopper discusion
