Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Dear All especially David,

Looking forward to the next release of GH, I hope your travels aren't getting in the way!

However, I would like to add this to the ever increasing pile of wishes for GH.

I've just got to the end of creating a complex definition and realised that what I actually needed was "Divide Length" instead of "Divide Curve". As these two components are so similar, in an ideal world I would love to be able to just click on a convert option in the context menu. But I realise this probably isn't easily achieved in reality. Would it be possible to "explode" a component so that when there are existing parameter paths they remain grouped together, see images for clarity. And then merging these with a new component, that way the user has the ability to prevent any parameter type mismatches.

I agree with this wish, i find myself in this situation all too often.
I don't like this idea, because it's not obvious which parameters are supposed to be "matchable" between different components. Somehow both the Divide and the DivideLength component would have to know about each others existence for this to work.

Your solution to store connections in a placeholder parameter is better, but wouldn't it be even more flexible if you could grab the endpoints of any collection of wires and drag them onto a new input/output?
Hi David!
I have been thinking about the same usability request for a while...almost as useful as an "undo"...It should work like "un-plugging" the output cable bundle fromthe right side of the component and taking that complete set of wires and plugging them in to the right side of a new component. Shouldn't it?

BTW, thanks for the great work and commitment!
Yeah definitely being able to drag a collection of wires from one to another would be fab.

Hi David. Just thought back about this wonderful usability feature you mentioned at the end of this comment. Are you (still) thinking about it?

Hi Miguel,

Try holding the "SHIFT"+"CTRL" buttons while dragging the wires with "Left mouse button" to plug them into new component.
Is that what you want?
