As the developer, your posts should remain value free. You are risking losing the chauvinist market share with that coment.

No, this is more fun.

Unless you are singing Abba you should've never used that word.

Haha..sorry for misunderstanding. By the way Nick,do u have any grasshopper's scripting about buildings which can be shared with me? For example the scripting to build an simple apartment? I seriously need some references for my final year project and am newbie in Grasshopper =( Any help is very much appreciated!

South or North Pole depends where you are. So if you are in the nothern hemnisphere.

Beadroom in the NorthEast for good morning sun.

Livingroom in the South-West for good evening sun after a long working day.....

It would be better if Earth was flat rather then geoid.

Excuse my ignorance, but meaning?

I cant transpose my mind to south-hemisphere-orientation.

Thanks michael!! How if the buildings are located at equator? For example,Malaysia?

Michelle,

With a bit more information, I could see what I can do. Do you have an explanation of what exactly you are doing or want to achieve for your final project?

My fyp topic is the influence of spatial arrangement of buildings on their thermal performance in hot and humid climate. so i am going to simulate the building using Grasshopper and analysis it using Ecotect. The main concern is to arrange the buildings in a way to optimize the shading and minimize the solar radiation. In my case i will try to arrange 4 high-rise buildings(example:apartment, condominium) in a given area and study which arrangement give the best thermal performance. A big problem now is i don't know how to simulate the building using Grasshopper =( Any building-related scripting might help me a lot..

Oh that's interesting. My FYP student work on almost similar topic. Maybe you want to contact him to exchange insight and experiences? His name is Ong Han Cin and his email address is: hancin622@hotmail.com.

He is doing his FYP under my supervision here at Multimedia University in Melaka/Malaysia.

Cheers!

Dirk

Dear Michelle,

After doing building simulation about houses here in Malaysia since quite some time now, I can share the following with you:

  • If you have a elongated house (i.e. l > w), then the best orientation is alone the East-West axis. You might find this article helpful.
  • If your house is of square shape (i.e. l = w), orientation only plays a minor role

I hope that helps. If you need further information, just let me know.

Regards from MY,

Dirk
