Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hey guys,

my problem this time revolves around a rectangle.

I want to divide the line of the rectangle in variable points. These points I want to be able to move individually or influence individually. I tried using graphmapper or thought about attractors but somehow I never got the right result.

Im gonna keep trying but if someone could point me in the right direction I'd be very grateful.

Thanks!

  1. Divide rectangle into points, either Divide Count, or Divide Distance, or Divide Length or whatever.
  2. Modify each point. I don't know how you want them modified, via an equation? via attractors you control manually? via a bitmap image?
  3. Connect the points using the Polyline component.

If you want the edges of the rectangle to not get segmented you'll have to explode the rectangle into 4 edges first, then modify each edge and turn it into a nurbs curve. Then join the four wavy edges again. If you don't explode your corners will also become rounded.

Hi David,

thanks for your reply.

I did it with divide length and it seems that that would be the going in the right direction.

How I want them modified? I guess whats easiest to change on the go? I thought about a graph mapper? How would it look with attractors?

I guess whats easiest to change on the go?

Aren't you confusing ends and means here? What is it you want to accomplish?

It is reasonably easy to deform them using point distances and graphs, but that just gives you one specific kind of deformation. What deformation do you need?

Hi David,

thats exactly what i meant. But I get an Error Mesage at the End saying "Input Parameter V failed to collect data". I set the rectangle to the one I needed.

Also, I dont quite understand your last question?

What I had in mind is something like this. But not with bricks.

So you want a wavy surface, not a wavy rectangle?

Yes, I shouldve said that shouldn't I?

I planned on extruding the rectangle or copying it and moving it and then loft it.

Sorry for the hassle :/

I tried it. (see attached files) But how can I use the points to change the form of the wave?

And  what should I try when I want to make louvres either vertically or horizontally? I tried that aswell and its in the files aswell but its disabled.
