Waffle open surface

Hello,

I am attempting to create a waffle form for the attached surface. I have tried as many scripts as possible but I have not managed to work it out. Any help would be much appreciated.

I hope these pictures are clear enough.

Basically i need to get the most accurate surface curvature, regardless of the outline of the waffle's base or top
