Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

HI,

I have run a simulation for calculating the VSC and compared the results with those obtained using MBS plugin for Sketchup.

With honeybee I got higher values of a couple of points (i.e. result in MBS= VSC5%, result in honeybee VSC 7%).

Has anyone experienced something like that? Can I trust the results?

Also is there a way to calculate the Annual probable sunlight hours, as a requirement in BR209?

I have attached the template for VSC calculation that I have taken from another discussion.

Thanks.

Hi Elisabetta,

I'm pretty new to Honeybee and am using it for daylighting too. I've not used MBS in the past, but I've used Ecotect and Radiance for years. I've run comparisons between Ecotect and Honeybee and so far the results correlate nicely. When they didn't it was usually due to the settings I was using in Honeybee. For example, in the GH script you posted, it appears that the grid is offset from the surface by 0.178 meters (I assume rather than mm). This is quite a large offset - and certainly enough to through off the results in highly obstructed scenarios where so little of the skydome is visible from the test point, especially if the window plane is recessed from the elevation (the lintel reveal is creating some shading). In this situation a large offset could mean that the test point is no longer shaded by the window head.

I'm looking at the annual sunshine hours at the moment too so if you have any pointers.

regards

Nick

Ladybug does calculate sunlight hours. Here are couple of examples: http://hydrashare.github.io/hydra/?keywords=sunlight

You can read more discussions about both of these topics in the forum: http://www.grasshopper3d.com/group/ladybug/forum

thank you is this reproducible in ladybug for grasshopper? thanks
