Voronoi on sphere

Hi fellow grasshoppers,

Does any one of you know whether it is possible to make a voronoi structure on only the outer shell of a sphere. I have seen examples of voronoi creations that go all the way through but I'm looking for a way that only targets the outer shell. Any idea's ?

One way would be to make a 3D voronoi, then intersect it with the sphere.

Which looks almost like the thing I want. After the sphere I want to try adding the structure to other shapes (more irregular ones), But I have yet to find a way to do it.
