Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi everyone,

Im trying to make a voronoi diagram onto a planar but non rectilinear surface

Any ideas?

Here's some 2D Voronoi I did in 2D with a non-rectangular outline:

Thanks a lot Nik but it seems like my issue is far more simple then what you have achieved! haha

Im trying to perform a voronoi diagram within voronoi cells, Ive uploaded an image so you can see what im trying to do. I know that i could ve used region intersection or other components to have the voronoi pattern solely on the surface, but when i do this the cells become polylines and i loose all the information relating to the cell (part that is crucial for my design).

Hierarchical Voronois are rather well known, though I'm not sure how they are made, often used for charting information as "treemaps":

Do the edges need to line up between adjacent cells?

When I zoom into your image the tiny cells don't even match the small cell outlines well.

Sorry, just passing through, I don't have a solid answer since the question is still a bit unclear.

You mainly want to get rid of the lines outside the gray areas yet not lose cell structure? That would mean some detailed surgery by algorithm, I mean strategy.
