Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Nearly finished this tutorial but having problems where it says 'Vmul' is that now 'Amp'?

Here's the tutorial:

My definition has gone haywire!

If any one can spot my mistake that would be awesome! Any tips and advice on this would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks a lot

Hello Adam,

I guess Vmul is Vector multiplication and Amp is Amplitude. I guess they are slightly different and might lead to a mess if they are changed. Anyways, its so easy to make a mess of stuff in GH ;) its part of the process!

Can you internalise the data in the 2 Curve inputs here (right-click and "internalise data"), that way you dont need to upload a rhino file:

Looks great btw, very intruiging. I can sure have a look once I have a .gh file with the internalised curves.

Ah, just noticed you started another thread about the same thing (bad idea ;) so it seems like its solved!?

Vector Multiply has been superseded by regular Multiply. Vector Amplitude set the length of a vector to a specific value, rather than modifying it with a factor.

Hey Armin, ok sorted the VMul to mul, (thanks David!) Xavier has written a good response, (sorry for mixing threads) but I feel that I need to have a much better understanding of data structures/flow, I have the 'parametric architecture with grasshopper' book by Arturo Tedeschi but it would be amazing to have a more tutorial based book, step by step, anyone know any good books or online resources for beginner/intermediates?

I've internalised the data and attached if anyone would like a stab at this tutorial!

Thanks

Adam

No problem.

Yeah I know that feeling, but don't worry you will get the hang of it.

I have the updated version of Arturo Tedeschi's book called AAD - Algorithm Aided Design, which is good, but maybe not the best way to start (I think videos are much better or a live workshop even more so).

There is some good in-depth video tutorials here: http://grasshopper.rese-arch.org/ They cost a bit of money, but I think are worth it. They are probably the closest to actually visiting a workshop.

Before that, you could watch all of the videos by digitaltoolbox, which are a good introduction: https://www.youtube.com/user/digitaltoolbox/videos?flow=grid&vi...

Also these videos by Nick Senske are very good and a bit more advanced: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL7255AFE6678ABCB7 They are actually part of a lecture series he was doing at the UNC Charlotte's Architecture program: Digital Fundamentals, Computational Methods, and Second Year Architecture Studio. Very in-depth and I learned a lot.

Most of what I just wrote and even more can also be found in the Tutorials section on this very website: http://www.grasshopper3d.com/page/tutorials-1

I think armed with those and a lot of playing around, you will be well on your way.

Thanks a lot Armin!

If anybody can help me solve the data flow issues in this definition that would be awesome! Just had another look but completely lost! cheers

Adam
