algorithmic modeling for Rhino

variable offset weirdness?

when i use variable offset on a poly curve it does this weird thing where it seems to internally explode the line and extend i. any idea why or how to stop it? I just want a variable pipe that follows the line with mitered kinks at the appropriate deflection points. thanks wonderful forum !
