Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi all:

I'm new to Grasshopper Beta, so first let me say that I'm very impressed! Thanks for your great work.

As a noob, I'm not yet familiar with all of the available functions, so forgive me if this is a silly question: will it ever be possible for users to define their own custom Node types? In other parametric packages like ProE, NX, and Catia, I can define "User Defined Features" or "Power Copy" elements that allow me to define a complex set of features that sprout from a given input type.

It would be great to have functionality like this in Grasshopper, because the node tree can get unruly really quickly: it would be nice to be able to group complex or repetitive sets of nodes into a single node, thus making the tree much easier to read, and much easier to copy/paste between documents.

Ideally I'd like to have a library of custom nodes available for use in a custom toolbar, but I'm getting ahead of myself! :)

Does this already exist, or are there plans for something like it?

All the best,

Hi Adam,

The feature you are describing has been temporarily removed from GH, it was called clusters. That area of the program needed to have a serious re-write and is scheduled for a come back, but do not know when. David is currently doing the rounds of workshop classes and I would doubt if anything appears in the next few releases. It is a feature that a lot of people are asking for so it should get moved up the stack quite quickly, but what ever you do, don't ask when the mac version will be ready (@David :P)

Thanks, Danny! That sounds like exactly what I was hoping for. No rush on it, I just wanted to know if it was in the works.

Soooo, about that Mac version... ;)
