Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Does Grasshopper have a way of upgrading OLD items (components or parameters) to NEW items (components or parameters) in existing .gh files?

Fond memories Alex. I have a pic of a GH Klein from 2009. Which reminds me to get rid of all this old non functioning stuff. I guess we all have a tendency to hang on to stuff. Perhaps its because it reminds us of our once constructive time ..... having turned out to be wasted! :)

Ah nice blast from the past! i do that to (hang on to stuff) but still, maybe the file is obsolete, the knowledge remains, almost the same method, if not the same, to build the surface.

Ok... I still fail to see the link to the programming language.

Grasshopper expressions are not C++, or .NET, or Python, or VBScript, or any other available language. They are evaluated internally and are indeed much slower than they could be. GH2 will compile all expressions to managed assemblies, so at least that bit will be much faster.

This is in fact one of the few things that actually already work. The expression solver can successfully create compiled code, while still maintaining all associations to the origins of each variable, so that when an expression uses the value of a slider somewhere else, when that slider changes the expression also invalidates.
